More Than You Wanted to Tell, But So What?

Another {chime music} "Getting to Know You" {end music} post since there seems to be a few more of us now (maybe it's just an optical illusion). Give your favorites and worsts... and this time I'm not making it multiple choice. It's open-ended. Ha! We'll see who's brave and who's not this time...

1) Favorite TV actor from a sit-com, any sit-com -- ever!
2) Favorite muppet
3) Favorite flavor of ice cream
4) Favorite Bible verse
5) Favorite Olympic moment
6) Favorite dinner entree
7) Favorite interjection (i.e. Ow! Darn! Rats! etc.)
8) Favorite scary movie (or, if you'd rather, favorite cheesy movie)
9) Favorite vacation place
10) Favorite 60s song
11) Favorite mouthwash
12) Favorite type of automobile

13) Worst place gone to or been taken on a date
14) Worst book you've ever read all the way thru
15) Worst college sports team
16) Worst holiday
17) Worst nervous habit you have
18) Worst President of the United States
19) Worst type of candy
20) Worst class you ever took in high school or middle school/junior high
21) Worst characteristic your mom or dad might nag you about yourself
22) Worst 80s pop/rock artist/band
23) Worst TV reality show
24) Worst Brady kid from the Brady Bunch

Of course, you can pass on any question you don't want to answer or don't know an answer to. Heck, most people will just pass on the whole post, so I'll take whatever I can get. But once you do answer, well then, we'll know every possible thing worth knowing about you. Joking!!!

But come on, spill your favs and least favs. Then, once I feel comfortable because enough people have played, maybe I'll answer one or two of the questions -- hm, maybe # 2 and # 22, those seem like good ones for me. But like I said, you go first.

You answered # 24 but didn't answer # 1. Is that a contradiction? I'll just take it to mean that the ONLY sit-com you've EVER watched is The Brady Bunch, making that both your favorite and worst at the same time.

Actually got scared after your first two answers. After those, I was expecting to read: # 3: Don't like ice cream. # 4: All the verses are good. # 5: I only watch NASCAR not the Olympics. # 6: I only eat breakfast and lunch.

But in the end, you did GREAT!!! And the "Heavens to Betsy" is classic.

Douglas!

You are the most brave, I have to say. Your Jonah-esque responses (in that you've been swallowed and it must be pretty dark where you are).

Ratt! What a great answer for Worst 80s act. I hadn't thought of that band and probably never would have again. You and b also both had great Bible verse favorites. And $120 and no alcohol or dessert??? The alcohol and dessert IS the meal for some of us. What could be better than a stout and some Twinkies (or Chocodiles - do you remember Chocodiles?)? Now, that's a meal.

B said...

It does seem like a contradiction and since this is such an important topic, I'll clarify my answer:

I no longer watch the Brady Bunch, but I did when I was younger. I didn't choose one of the Bunch for #1 because I didn't feel like any of those actors deserved a 'favorite actor' title. Since I currently do not watch any sit coms, I felt that I left the appropriate answer.

I didn't clarify this in my answers because I was trying to keep my comment pithy. I apologize for any confusion I might have caused.

DugALug said...

Rich,

Just 'cause I am in the dark most of the time, doesn't mean that I was swallowed. Rumors of my demise were, in fact, greatly overated.

Barbra Eden must have thought my 'wishes' were pretty funny too, or she just thought I was pathetic, so she had mercy on me and let me go.

-Doug

Rich said...

You're right. It is an important topic.

Thank you for clarifying, and you were extremely brave in answering, much like Doug and almost to level of courage as Doug, but not quite. Doug was first and has laid the groundwork for all who follow. Still, you didn't run away like codepoke, and you haven't been silent like me -- so... four stars for courage.

Saying that, I did ask for favorite sit-com actor/actresses ever. Not that I'm questioning your integrity, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe a little Leave It to Beaver, My Three Sons, Facts of Life, Silver Spoons, Different Strokes, and Saved by the Bell didn't cross your TV set at some point in your youth. C'mon, you can tell us, b. We're all in the same boat. Well, I'm not in the Saved by the Bell boat, but I saw some of all those others. I'm sure you've got a favorite actor/actress somewhere in there.

Was it Willis?

Ok, Rich. You've found me out. I'm a huge fan of Dustin Diamond from Saved by the Bell. I was too embarrassed to say it before--and am embarrassed now, but I couldn't hide any longer.

Honestly, though, I never watched a lot of sit-coms. My dad thought they were an insult to his intelligence, and discouraged us from watching them. But my mom loved Mary Tyler Moore, so we watched it on Nick at Night. Even though I was very careful to answer each question openly and honestly, I forgot about MTM. It was an honest mistake!

In light of the new findings, I officially change my answer to question #1 to Ted Knight.

1) Favorite TV actor from a sit-com, any sit-com -- ever!
Grace Under Fire. I loved the protagonist, whatever her name was.

2) Favorite muppet
Oscar the Grouch. (Don't know no stinking muppets.) I felt more like Kermit, but I wished I could be like Oscar.

3) Favorite flavor of ice cream
Vanilla - followed by Black Raspberry with huge bittersweet chocolate chunks. A Graeter's specialty.

4) Favorite Bible verse
Right now:
Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name. "On the day when I act," says the LORD Almighty, "they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him.
Malachi 3:16,17

5) Favorite Olympic moment
The end each year. Actually, it was pretty cool taking my kids to an early round field hockey game in Atlanta in '96.

6) Favorite dinner entree
Ready? Roast a heavily seasoned chicken with onions. Keep the drippings. Slow roast a hunk of heavily seasoned beef with more onions in the drippings of the chicken the next day. Serve that with a boiled artichoke, and you have a friend for life.

7) Favorite interjection (i.e. Ow! Darn! Rats! etc.)
Dangit!

The original Night of the Living Dead. It took me three tries before I could finally watch the whole thing at age 12 or so.

9) Favorite vacation place

14) Worst book you've ever read all the way thru
I've suffered through a few, but the only one that comes to mind is, "The Glory of Christ" by John Owen. How do you take a subject so rich, and make it so boring?

18) Worst President of the United States
Can you say, Stagflation?

19) Worst type of candy
Caramel.

20) Worst class you ever took in high school or middle school/junior high
Typing. My teacher was born without the gift of logic in any degree. It about killed me. One day she gave us a 5 minute timing. She started us at 9:05:00, and ended us at 9:11:00. She excused herself by telling us that she had only given us an extra 30 seconds. About 90 seconds of logic later, I found myself in the principal's office after saying, "Listen, you IDIOT! You cannot start on the 12 and end on the 12 and have taken 30 seconds!"

I was neither popular nor sensible as a child.

At least I grew older.

Total detachment from family. In Christ I am learning to connect to them again.

If I didn't like them, I didn't listen to them. I was told to hate KISS, though.

Now, you need to find yourself a muppet, or we'll just conclude:

Oscar the Grouch

I checked: In America "Entree" refers to the main course of the meal. In Europe, it refers to the dish served before the meat course during formal dinners (www.chefdepot.net/glossary.htm)

Milly,

Glad to help, but don't be afraid to stir up trouble around here.

Maeghan,

Tell your son "howdy!" You did great on the list, btw. After looking at the Bible verse you wrote in Greek, I'm thinking your keyboard must be GIANT-SIZED ;) Also, good job on nailing John Grisham.

Doug,

I argued enough about Halloween at Thinklings last year - wish you could have been there, cuz I'd have argued with you, too. No sense in doing it now, though, here in April. But it's coming. You might have a senior member of The Realm on your side in that one, too, I'm not sure... but I won't worry about that guy, cuz I never see him around anymore.

Oh, and the candy's free to me. I'm guessing it grows on trees. Or maybe that's the apples with the razor blades in them grown by devil-worshipping orchard farmers, I'm not sure which. :)

Rich said...

Oops, I didn't even mention codepoke!!!

How many Realm denizens would have figured on anyone - ANYONE - pulling their favorite Bible verse out of Malachi? Only codepoke. But I love that!!!

And you mentioned that it was your favorite "for now," codepoke. Can I expect a verse out of Nahum or Jude next time?

Lastly, and you may have been joking, I couldn't tell, but I'm fairly sure the protagonist's name in Grace Under Fire was, well, Grace (played by Brett Butler, I think - and that would be a girl "Brett" not like my brother "Brett" that comments every once in a while here... he, it just so happens, is a guy).

DugALug said...

Rich,

You should know by now, that if you argue with me, you will get an argument.

Ah, DugALug. Ignorance on display again. I had no idea Crichton was responsible for Congo.

Now that I know, I feel your pain!

I liked his "The Great Train Robbery", but only because I really wanted to know some historic detail. Not because he made the story in any way a good read.

Maeghan said...

I love reading Michael Crichton! I suppose it is by influence of my husband who is a die-hard sci-fi and pop-sci fan who also got me into reading Fermat's Theorem - a downright excellent work by Simon Singh. (He got me into Star Trek as well - I really like the Voyager series). I have not read State of Fear though, it is still sitting on my shelf ;) too many commentaries in the way of picking it up!

John Grisham, is a different story. I was a real fan when he started writing. However, his later works really made me sleeeeppp.
