The Princess Bride! Is there anyone out there who doesn't like this movie? Seriously, I've never met anyone who has said, "Meh, The Princess Bride, I could take it or leave it" or "Yeesh. That Princess Bride movie sure was awful."The majority of people I know that have seen the movie have thought it was absolutely great, and most loved it, not just liked it.
I was a sophomore at Auburn University when I walked in with some friends to see the movie. My girlfriend and some of her friends decided they'd rather see Less Than Zero because it sounded better than some fantasy comedy. Well, guess who had the last laugh there? I was astounded watching The Princess Bride. From the opening scene with Peter Falk and Fred Savage, I knew I was going to love it. And the rest of the movie never disappointed. It just got better and better. Certain things on this earth seem to have a little spark of magic, and The Princess Bride is one of them.
My favorite parts center around the portion of the movie that Wallace Shawn (Vizzini) dominated. The Wesley vs. Inigo fencing duel and the battle of wits between Wesley and Vizzini were simply awesome. Of course, when Inigo meets Count Ruben and finishes him off, mm mm, that was too good as well. But this movie had cookies all the way through it. The casting was excellent. The apparel just right. A perfect movie-going experience.
How 'bout you? Favorite parts? Favorite lines of dialogue or exchanges? Why you liked it so much? If there's anyone who didn't like it or thought it was boring, let us know why. I promise I won't be overbearing like I was when Wanda said she had never watched an episode of Seinfeld. I learned my lesson. Also, is there anyone who just plain hasn't seen this movie?
Let me know. Or don't. As you wish.

What's not to like?
Man was this a great, unexpected movie.
Without a doubt my favorite scenes are with Vizzini (Wallace Shawn). But Inigo (Mandy Patinkin) said it best with the below:
Vizzini: Inconceivable.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.
My second favorite was the entire 'battle of witts' with Venizzi and the Dread Pirate Roberts:
Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong - that's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha-ha, you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less famous is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian, when *death* is on the line!". Hahahahahah!
[Vizzini falls over dead]
This movie is still a wonderful jewell!

I do not think it means, what you think it means.
I use this one all the time.
I like everything about the movie. I'm not left handed either. is a great one.
I think the giant is my favorite character. I love the scene when they are sitting on a castle wall, trying to figure out how to get into the gate. Wesley is still crippled, and he just wishes he had a wheelbarrow.
Great stuff.
(Is anyone else having a problem seeing the site? For me, the bulk of the text is ending up below the table on the left for many of the posts. It looks like it is still loading. After reloading a page 3 times yesterday, I scrolled all the way to the bottom, and found the actual post. It is happening for me at the home page right now, with the Mr. Originality post [which is a great post, and should not be hidden under a typo])
codepoke,
I'm not having a problem. I'll get with Ken and ask him what's going on.
Sorry about any trouble.
Rich,
I am having the same trouble.

Wow,
I sat down and le tmy 5-year-old watch it this weekend. It is still a great movie.
I have another favorite scene. At the end with Adam Savage offers for his Grandpa to come over tommorow and read the story over to him and he replies:
"As you wish!"
Really clever!

My favorite part is "inconceivable", then Inigo getting Rugen. My daughter's favorite: "No more rhymes, and I mean it!" ... "Anybody want a peanut?"
Weekend Fisher,
Anytime one of my kids speaks a rhyme around our house, I'll come out with the, "Mo more rhyming and I mean it."
More often than not, one of them will follow suit with, "Anybody want a peanut?"
It's a classic.
In fact, we'll also use the "Probably he/she means no harm" and "He/she's really very short on charm" rhyme as well. In life, I think this one becomes a lot more easy to use... for some reason.
